Snow Skiing In Oregon
Oregon offers World-Class skiing on Mt. Hood, less than 60 minutes from Downtown Portland, and Mt. Bachelor in Central Oregon. Lodging is limited around Mt. Hood, but with its close proximity to Portland, many skiers are more than happy to make day trips to ski. Mt. Bachelor is more of a destination ski area with numerous resorts within 30 minutes of its slopes.

Heritage - Something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth, or inheritance, or portion.
Timberline Lodge is an integral part of American heritage. In keeping with the spirit of our pioneer forefathers, the area’s native people, and the mountain’s bounty of wild flora and fauna, the lodge and ski area were built with the rugged spirit of individualism and yet, as a product of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal policies, it was also born out of a spirit of cooperation and teamwork. Timberline Lodge was born during the throes of the Great Depression. It was a “make work project” during a severely idled national economy. It was, and is still today, a symbol of hope and purpose, representing the notion that when government works closely with the people, it can truly serve the common good and provide solutions to some of society’s biggest problems. Franklin Roosevelt dedicated the lodge in 1937 as a “testament to the workers on the rolls of the Works Progress Administration.” Nearly 75 years later, Timberline is that, and much more. Timberline is where historic preservation, stewardship, recreation, and hospitality come together to provide an unforgettable experience.
Here, we have a firm respect for tradition, yet a forward leaning sense of innovation. Timberline Lodge is not a static museum. It is a living, breathing, evolving place, operated for what it was originally intended to be…a working ski lodge, a quality hotel, and a mountain retreat. At Timberline, we celebrate a heritage of year around mountain recreation, excellent regional cuisine, and genuine hospitality. Our heritage means authenticity, old world quality, and dependability. These attributes and our rich history combine to create one of the most highly visited tourist attractions in Oregon, and a compelling source of pride for all Americans.
Timberline’s heritage is vested heavily in partnerships that share a belief in common goals. As operators of Timberline, R.L.K. and Company practices collaborative stewardship with our primary partners. The United States Forest Service provides interpretive tours for our many visitors, and the non-profit Friends of Timberline group is dedicated to the preservation of Timberline and its decorative arts. We recognize a “sense of place” being at Timberline, and even a power of place. We feel inspired to uphold our duty as stewards of our heritage and to provide genuine hospitality to our guests. This culture in which we live instills the belief in us, and makes it obvious to our customers, that we are Proud To Be Your Host.
